Telecom Egypt (WE) has recently announced the increase of prices on landline Internet packages on their website.  These new landline internet plan prices are calculated to be a 30% increase from the old prices and these increases would take effect from January 5, 2024. This hike in price have been said to be an off-shoot of previous decisions by telecommunication companies in Egypt to raise prices of recharge plans.  WE's internet package increases include the following:

1. The 140 GB plan was formerly EGP 120, but now costs EGP 160 (excluding tax). This totals a 33.3 percent increase.

2.  The 200 GB plan which was available  at the cost of EGP 170 would soon be available at EGP 225.

3. Subscribers of the 250 GB plan would only be able to pay for it at EGP 280 as opposed to EGP 210 that it used to be.

4. Also, the 400 GB users would now be faced with paying for the plan for EGP 440  compared to the earlier price of EGP 340.

5.  The 600 GB plan has also escalated from EGP 500 to EGP 650.

6. Finally, the 1 terabyte plan would also face an upward change from EGP 800 to EGP 1050.

On the positive side of things, Telecom Egypt have stated that these price hike would be cushioned with the free provision of internet services for educational and government sites.

How Does The Changes In Internet Prices Affect People's Ability To Do Business Better And Student Study Better?

We all know that Telecom Egypt isn't the only telecom in Egypt that has hiked the prices of their internet plans. Other providers like Etisalat, Vodafone, and Orange have either implemented these changes or have these changes in the works.  Now, with the daily lives of mobile phone users in Egypt being affected, how would these hikes be navigated to maintain better business dealings and studying for those whose academics and worked are really dependent on the use of a stable and decent amount of internet connection.

To answer the question in the post, I personally believe that in order for students and business owners to be able to balance the effects of the price increases with their daily internet needs, there's a need to thoroughly weigh each data plan to see which would best suit what they need and which can be more economized to avoid quick exhaustion.

What do you think?
